Hence, there is a continuous requirement to educate, train and update the industrial workforce – R&D staff and management – about the latest developments in this dynamic field. China-Europe International Silicon Photonics Symposium and Course brings along industrial and academic technology leaders from the leading eco-systems in the world to bring a full spectrum of perspective about silicon photonics technology and its applications. The symposium will focus on perspectives with respect to the potential of silicon photonics in various application domains. European Photonic Integration Forum (EPIF) is an embodiment of the most important European stakeholders operating in various segments of the European photonic integration ecosystem. Every year, ePIXfab and JePPIX join forces to organize EPIF with the support of its members and partners. This year the 10th edition of the EPIF will be held at the 45th conference on optical communication (ECOC) on 24th September 2019 in Room Merrion from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Royal Dublin Showground, which is the venue for the ECOC conference.
After three impressive schools in Ghent University (Belgium), ePIXfab’s 4th edition of the silicon photonics summer school is coming to Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna (Pisa, Italy).
This edition of the summer school is tailor-made for participants to learn all the way from basics of silicon photonics science and technology to its applications in an ever-growing set of areas. Industrial and academic experts from across the globe will be delivering tutorials on hot-topics and emerging developments in this dynamically changing field. The school provides the audience with an excellent opportunity to engage and interact with the top-notch experts in this field.
The Specialist Course on Silicon Photonics Design offers a focused, hands-on design course. It is targeted at researchers and engineers with an already fundamental understanding of photonic integrated circuits. The course focused on the process to translate a photonic circuit idea into a working chip, going from schematic design and circuit simulation to layout, routing and interactive design rule checking. As part of the course, the participants get the opportunity to actually tape-out a design that will be fabricated with an e-beam prototyping service and characterized. Based on these results, the design can be improved and submitted to a wafer-scale multi-project-wafer run of which the participants will receive the final chips.
The 2019 conference took place in Ghent, Belgium and was a great academic success with speakers from all over the world.
