Our mission

ePIXfab is a not-for-profit, open alliance of academic and industrial organizations dedicated to advancing silicon photonics science, technology, and applications in Europe and worldwide. Acting as a catalyst between academia and industry, ePIXfab strengthens the global silicon photonics ecosystem by fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, skills development, and awareness of emerging technologies and opportunities.

At the heart of ePIXfab’s mission is education, knowledge exchange, and community building. Through the organization of dedicated training, workshops, and satellite events at major international conferences, ePIXfab connects leading experts, researchers, students, and industry professionals to share the latest advances in silicon photonics, exchange expertise, and foster new collaborations.

ePIXfab provides independent expertise, together with liaising with international organizations and communities to strengthen connections between Europe and the global silicon photonics ecosystem, and roadmapping technological trends and future developments to help the community anticipate emerging needs and opportunities.

ePIXfab is an open and inclusive alliance, welcoming any organization that shares an interest in its mission. It maintains a neutral position with respect to the individual ambitions and commercial interests of its members and does not assess, rank, or endorse the capabilities of individual member organizations.

Our origins

ePIXfab has been playing an active role in the field of silicon photonics since 2006. ePIXfab has a rich track record of promoting silicon photonics through its activities. ePIXfab started its activities in 2006 as the provider of the world’s first open-access Multi Project Wafer (MPW) service for silicon photonics prototyping. After the handover of brokerage service to Europractice in 2014, ePIXfab has redefined itself with a much broader scope. In this new role, ePIXfab promotes silicon photonics through various activities.

Our activities

Through these activities, ePIXfab promotes silicon photonics by:

Organizing training courses and educational activities to strengthen technical expertise and develop the next generation of silicon photonics professionals.
Organizing satellite events, workshops, and community sessions in connection with major conferences and relevant international events.
Bringing together leading experts and pioneers to share knowledge on emerging technologies, applications, and scientific developments.
Facilitating cross-project and cross-sector knowledge exchange, connecting European research initiatives, academia, technology providers, and industry.
Highlighting recent technological advances and emerging opportunities across the silicon photonics ecosystem.
Supporting networking and new collaborations among researchers, engineers, students, companies, and research organizations.
Advocating for the silicon photonics community and increasing the visibility of its scientific and technological achievements.
Providing independent, non-commercial consultancy and expertise.
Liaising with international organizations and communities to strengthen connections between Europe and the global silicon photonics ecosystem.
Roadmapping technological trends and future developments to help the community anticipate emerging needs and opportunities, such as in the ICOS2 project.
